The main school accommodates students from grades 1 to 8, while four satellite schools in the villages of Dubovec, Dobri Zdenci, Hum Stubički, and Sveti Matej provide instruction for students from grades 1 to 4. An elementary music school also operates within the institution.

Primary School Matije Gupca Gornja Stubica is one of the leading educational institution in Krapina-Zagorje County, recognized for its commitment to innovation and collaboration. The school’s responsibilities within the PROTECT project include hosting a five-day Learning, Teaching, and Training (LTT) course, organizing advocacy meetings with local environmental organizations, and actively contributing to the development of project outputs such as case studies, lesson plans, and the Teacher Toolkit. Our staff brings extensive experience in project-based work, professional development, and international cooperation, ensuring high-quality contributions to research, dissemination, and school-based climate action initiatives.
The PROTECT project aligns perfectly with our mission to develop students’ competencies for lifelong learning and active citizenship. By engaging in climate action education and collaborative practices, we strengthen teachers’ professional growth and foster students’ teamwork skills, preparing them for future challenges. EU / International Project Experience
Primary School Matije Gupca Gornja Stubica actively participates in several international and regional projects promoting science, sustainability, and innovation in education. Since 1996, the school has been part of THE GLOBE Program, becoming the first Croatian school to send environmental data to the central GLOBE computer in Boulder, Colorado. Students and teachers regularly collect and report data on atmospheric conditions, water quality, and plant phenology. The school also holds Eco-School silver status, implementing environmental education across the institution. Additionally, it contributed to the regional project “Future: For Us and For You”, aimed at raising awareness of sustainable development. Through Erasmus+ projects, the school has created a dynamic and inclusive learning environment, offering international exposure, innovative teaching practices, and improved language skills. Osnovna škola Matije Gupca Gornja Stubica javna je odgojno-obrazovna ustanova namijenjena učenicima u dobi od 6 do 15 godina. Smještena je u Gornjoj Stubici, ruralnoj općini s približno 5.600 stanovnika raspoređenih u 20 naselja. Upisno područje škole obuhvaća širok i prostorno raspršen teritorij.
U školskoj godini 2025./2026. školu pohađa 317 učenika, uz stručnu podršku 54 učitelja i 15 ostalih zaposlenika. Matična škola obrazuje učenike od 1. do 8. razreda, dok četiri područne škole u naseljima Dubovec, Dobri Zdenci, Hum Stubički i Sveti Matej provode nastavu za učenike od 1. do 4. razreda. U sklopu ustanove djeluje i osnovna glazbena škola.
Škola se ističe dobrim ugledom u lokalnoj zajednici te razvijenom suradnjom s roditeljima, utemeljenom na međusobnom povjerenju i poštovanju. Takva suradnja predstavlja čvrstu osnovu za pokretanje aktivnosti usmjerenih na unapređenje kvalitete života zajednice.
Misija škole jest razvijati potencijale i kompetencije svih učenika, nužne za aktivno sudjelovanje na tržištu rada i cjeloživotno učenje. Za ostvarenje tog cilja od presudne je važnosti osigurati učiteljima mogućnosti za profesionalni razvoj, razmjenu iskustava te usporedbu različitih obrazovnih sustava.

Osnovna škola Matije Gupca Gornja Stubica jedna je od vodećih odgojno-obrazovnih ustanova u Krapinsko-zagorskoj županiji, prepoznata po predanosti inovacijama i suradnji. Odgovornosti škole u okviru projekta PROTECT uključuju organizaciju petodnevnog tečaja učenja, poučavanja i osposobljavanja (LTT), koordinaciju zagovaračkih sastanaka s lokalnim ekološkim organizacijama te aktivno sudjelovanje u izradi projektnih rezultata poput studija slučaja, nastavnih priprema i Priručnika za učitelje. Naše osoblje u PROTECT tim donosi bogato iskustvo u projektnom radu, stručnom usavršavanju i međunarodnoj suradnji, čime osiguravamo kvalitetan doprinos istraživanju, diseminaciji i školskim klimatskim inicijativama.
Projekt PROTECT savršeno se uklapa u našu misiju razvoja kompetencija učenika za cjeloživotno učenje i aktivno građanstvo. Uključivanjem u obrazovanje o klimatskim akcijama i u suradničke prakse jačamo profesionalni rast učitelja te potičemo timski rad učenika, pripremajući ih za buduće izazove. Ovo partnerstvo povećava našu sposobnost integriranja europskih najboljih praksi i potiče promicanje održivosti u obrazovanju.

Osnovna škola Matije Gupca Gornja Stubica aktivno sudjeluje u brojnim međunarodnim i regionalnim projektima koji promiču znanost, održivost i inovacije u obrazovanju. Od 1996. godine škola je član GLOBE programa, postavši prva škola u Hrvatskoj koja je poslala ekološke podatke u središnji GLOBE sustav u Boulderu, Colorado.
